Deadwood Meets the World Series: Researching 1909 for Sable & Gold

The past few months have been a whirlwind—in the best way. Much of my time has been devoted to lifting up other authors through Janine Chellington Press. Between editing, formatting, promoting their new releases, and helping their stories find the right readers, I’ve been reminded again how much I love this creative community. There’s something special about watching another writer’s ideas take shape and knowing I had a small part in helping their book shine.

Still, even while championing other authors, my own writing heart has been tugging me back to writing this historic fiction series.

I’m excited to share that I’ve been steadily working on the outline for Book 3 in the Sagacity Stories Series: Sable & Gold. This stage is one of my favorites—character development, weaving threads from earlier books, discovering new story paths, and letting themes rise naturally. There’s a quiet thrill in watching fictional people become real enough to argue with me, surprise me, or insist that their version of a scene is better than mine.

And Book 3 promises some fun.

One of the upcoming storylines will take readers to Deadwood, South Dakota, just as the town buzzed with excitement around the 1909 World Series. This was the sixth World Series ever played: the Pittsburgh Pirates facing off against the Detroit Tigers. With no television and very limited radio, following the games looked nothing like it does today. Fans gathered around telegraph boards, crowding into saloons and storefronts as each pitch, run, and out clicked in from hundreds of miles away. It was electric, communal, and entirely unique to the era.

As I dive into this slice of history, I’m eager to learn not just the stats and outcomes, but the experience—the way ordinary people, far from the stadiums, lived and celebrated the moment. How did a town like Deadwood come alive with World Series fever? How did fans connect to a game they couldn’t see? What did it feel like to be part of that early wave of baseball passion?

These are the details that bring history to life—and the details I can’t wait to share with you as Sable & Gold unfolds. I expect it this book to release sometime in 2026.

Thank you, always, for walking alongside me in this journey—through research, writing, and the simple joy of storytelling. There’s much more ahead, and I’m excited to bring you with me.

If you haven’t yet read Books 1 and 2—Zoetic Solace and Reaching for Reveries—now is the perfect time to dive in. Both novels are available together in a special bundle, giving you a seamless path into Sena’s world and all the threads that will lead into Sable & Gold. I’d love for you to catch up on the journey so far and be ready for everything the next chapter has in store.
